What Can You
Say About Stumps?

Hercules-Brunswick
Community Outreach Video

The Hercules chemical plant in Brunswick,
Georgia was one of the major industries in the town.
However, it has a problem with it's acceptance in the
community. Like most chemical plants, it had a long history
of turning inward, of keeping the community at a distance.
Not the best approach to community relations in this day an
age of environmental awareness. How do you turn around that
relationship?
The answer developed by Ann Green
Communications was an in depth community outreach program.
One of the key elements was a video tour inside the gates of
the plant. From a media perspective, the task was to take a
75 year old plant, partially through it's renovation, polish
it up, look for the positive aspects of the current
situation and defuse community concerns.
Our solution was to take it's unique primary
process (turning pine stumps into rosin and resin), mix it
with the technological advances occuring on site, and close
with the plant's commitment to environmental and industrial
safety. The key ingredient that would hold all these
elements together was a series of interviews with plant
employees - all members of the community and all reflecting
the pride that the employee body as a whole felt about the
plant. All location shots and interviews were conducted in a
jam packed 4 day shooting schedule.
The resulting program was successful not only
within the community, but also within the plant and the
larger Hercules organization. Needless to say, the client
was extremely satisfied.
